An Introduction to Sound Baths

What is a Sound Bath?

Sound is one of the oldest forms of healing. From Tibetan singing bowls to Aboriginal didgeridoos, sound has been used and documented for its therapeutic effects for thousands of years. The ancient Greeks used sound vibration to aid in digestion, treat mental disturbance, and induce sleep.

Sound Baths are an acoustic sound healing journey used to relax the body, calm the mind, clear the subconscious, activating the body's natural healing systems.

When discussing sound baths no two people will usually experience the same thing at the same time - just like with any other meditative practice. Using ancient healing instruments like crystal singing bowls and a symphonic gong, sound baths stimulate your alpha and theta brain waves.

These sound waves produced are associated with deep, meditative, and peaceful states that are highly conducive to healing. This help to downshift your nervous system, and in doing so they can also slow the heart and respiratory rate, creating therapeutic and restorative conditions for the mind and body.

Benefits of a Sound Bath

Potential benefits of sound baths are also highly personalised. People experience lowered blood pressure and improve cognitive skills. Most common reports are feeling very rested and enjoying good deep night’s sleep post-bath, which leads to a more generalised sense of calm and groundedness. These experiences can leave you feeling a little spaced out following a session. This is linked to a deep meditative state that you might not have ever reached.

Where can I take a Sound Bath?

Start with your studio? They may already offer these classes on a schedule outside their usual offering or if they don't this is a good one to suggest. Also look for special sound bath events near you.

To get you started head to Manduka Europe IGTV and take 10 minutes to enjoy a sound bath from sound meditation healer Gabrielle Woodson @gabfest from www.SolunaRise.com and experience it for yourself. Using ancient healing instruments like crystal singing bowls and a symphonic gong, Gabrielle facilitates sound baths to stimulate your alpha and theta brain waves, promoting deep, meditative and peaceful states of being.
