Top Ten Ways to Make Your Wellness Space SHINE

Manduka has been here with you each month this year to provide some things to consider as you aim to have a world-class spa or fitness center on your property.  Thinking back on those tips, and in the spirit of the usual end of year top 10 lists, we have collected one of our own:

  1. Have the right equipment. Luxury wellness travelers demand the best. Hotels that command premium prices need to maintain the same level of quality across all touchpoints at the hotel. Don’t let old, faulty or low-quality materials in the fitness center change their first-class perception—a thin, worn yoga mat just isn’t acceptable.
  2. Offer complementary accessories. In addition to the right hardgoods, think about the additional pieces needed for a robust practice. Low-pile, highly-absorbent towels, soft meditation cushions, and supportive blocks are all the types of props and accessories needed for a well-equipped studio.
  3. Create calm with stylish tones. Carry the facility’s design aesthetic into the studio with a range of tranquil colors and products that can be branded with the hotel logo.
  4. Make sure it’s clean and hygienic. Post-Covid, most of us think about cleanliness a little differently. In a gym or studio, where shared equipment is standard, revisit the methods for cleaning. Are there cleaning wipes or is a spray disinfectant available? Is there a regimen for thoroughly cleaning the yoga mats? Which cleaners can be used on which surfaces? And are those cleaning solutions safe and eco-friendly?
  5. Feature inspirational classes and new activities. Connect with teachers, trainers and fitness groups about hosting retreats and special events at the hotel. This is a great way to distinguish your wellness offerings from competitors and draw in new guests.
  6. Focus on the details. This comes second nature in the hospitality business but don’t overlook the fitness center, studio, and spa. These areas of the hotel also need a high level of consideration.
  7. Don’t forget about marketing. Manduka’s partners benefit from our multiple communication channels that reach the target audience via features and special promotions. Every property should have a plan on how to promote the studio and wellness events for the most successful results.
  8. Take it outside. Don’t let the four walls of the studio prevent you from offering outdoor options. Consider yoga by the pool, meditation in the garden, or mat-based Pilates on a sundeck or patio—your guests will love it.
  9. Let them shop. The boutique is a great place to extend the wellness offerings, whether that is retailing a yoga mat branded with your hotel’s logo or selling stylish activewear for guests to use during the trip or take home.
  10. Partner with Manduka, the premium yoga brand to help you achieve your wellness goals and put your property in front of thousands of active yogis worldwide!
