Each month Manduka aims to introduce a special hotel or retreat partner to ignite your desire for travel and discovery, and above all, to inspire your practice. These dreamy locations have all equipped their studios with Manduka equipment, ensuring that your yoga practice is just as supported away as it is at home.

Meet the Aethos Hotels group! We sat down with the Aethos team to explore how their thoughtfully designed destinations invite you to stay, engage, and connect with yourself, your surroundings, and a new community.

Tell us about Aethos. What is particularly unique and special about the destinations, hotels and your approach to hospitality?

We're a collection of boutique hotels and members' clubs across Europe, from a clifftop retreat overlooking the Atlantic in Ericeira to a medieval village turned albergo diffuso in the Umbrian hills of Saragano, the Italian Alps at Monterosa, the Mediterranean coasts of Mallorca and Sardinia, and city outposts in Lisbon, Milan and London.

What makes us different is that we never set out to build hotels in the conventional sense. Each destination is chosen for its synergy with our philosophy, not just its geography, and each property is deeply rooted in its place, designed with local architects and artisans, sourcing from regional producers, honouring the culture around it. Beyond the physical spaces, Aethos is a community: our guests and members are conscious explorers who share an attitude towards life, and our role is to create the environments where those connections happen naturally.

What type of experience are your guests looking for?

Our guests want experiences that are authentic and transformative rather than transactional. They're looking to connect with a place, with themselves, and with like-minded people. That might mean a sunrise surf and meditation in Ericeira, a truffle hunt or olive harvest in Saragano, alpine trails at Monterosa, or an unhurried evening around the table with food grown metres from where it's served. The common thread is balance: adventure and restoration, physical vitality and mental stillness. Wellbeing at Aethos isn't confined to the spa; it runs through how we design our days, our menus, and our programming.

What inspired the decision to make yoga part of the wellness offering?

For us it was never really a decision; it was a natural extension of who we are. Our philosophy holds that physical fitness and mental wellness go hand in hand, and yoga sits precisely at that intersection. It's also a practice that responds beautifully to our settings: flowing on a deck above the Atlantic, or in the quiet of an Umbrian hillside, it adds a dimension that no studio can replicate. Yoga gives our guests a ritual, a way of arriving in a place, slowing down, and being fully present in it. That presence is what Aethos is about.

Tell us a little bit about the Member's Club and what that offers.

The Aethos Members' Club is designed for modern explorers seeking extraordinary experiences and meaningful connections. Members enjoy access to exclusive spaces such as dedicated co-working areas, fully equipped gyms with personal trainers, and private meeting and dining rooms. The club hosts a variety of events, including themed dinners, talks, and wellness classes like yoga and Pilates, fostering a vibrant community. Additional benefits include discounts on food and beverages, preferential room rates at Aethos properties, and access to over 50 affiliate global members' clubs through the Sonato Alliance Membership.

Do you have upcoming retreats or events planned that you would like to share?

We're developing a dedicated yoga retreat at Aethos Saragano, our albergo diffuso in the heart of Umbria, an intimate setting of just 25 rooms where the village itself becomes part of the practice, with daily sessions complemented by farm to table dining and seasonal experiences in the surrounding hills. Alongside that, wellness programming runs year round across our destinations, from coastal practices in Ericeira and Mallorca to alpine wellness at Monterosa.

Why did you choose to partner with Manduka?

Because we recognise ourselves in Manduka. You approach equipment the way we approach hospitality: with intention, craftsmanship, and respect for the practice and the planet. Our guests notice details, the texture of a mat, the quality of what they touch, and Manduka's commitment to sustainable, beautifully made products mirrors the standard we hold ourselves to across every property. A partnership only works when the values are genuinely shared, and with Manduka, they are.
