The Space in Bath is a sanctuary for Yoga, Pilates, Barre, and Restorative classes, offering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all levels. Founded to create a space where students can simply be themselves, The Space emphasizes joy, connection, and personal growth. With a diverse team of passionate teachers, every class prioritizes freedom, mindfulness, and community over perfection. We sat down with studio founder Chloe Baio to learn more about the studio.
How did you [Chloe Baio] discover yoga, and what was your journey from student to teacher to studio owner?
I discovered yoga through rehab from a severe spinal injury. I fell in love with the practice after my very first class and knew I wanted to share that experience with others.
Was there a special teacher or guide who influenced your practice?
Yes, my teacher and now dear friend Anton Brandt, founder of The Sacred Fig. His training was really the catalyst of change in my life & transformed my way of being. I've met some lifelong friends through the Fig and really inspirational, creative & impactful teachers, who paved the way for me to become the guide I am today.
What inspired the name “The Space”? How does it reflect the kind of experience you want people to have when they walk in?
I wanted to create somewhere that felt like a sanctuary... That wasn’t confined to one teacher, one label or one meaning. It invites a sense of freedom, both with what we offer and the experiences our students’ may have. Space to move, to breathe and to be... With no judgments.
The Spaces’ vision emphasizes “profound connection & welcoming Community” — how does the studio bring this to life in classes and gatherings?
We recognise the need for solitude and introspection, but we thrive amidst community. We love exploring the polarity of personal insights and reflections, but also recognising we are part of something bigger. Our students arrive, make tea, chat, share stories and have an overarching sense of kindness towards each other.
How would you describe the energy of the studio? What do you want people to feel when they enter and leave?
We welcome all emotions, feelings and experiences but our intention is to cultivate a sense of joy. At our core, joy is our natural state, and in this space, we consciously create conditions that help it rise to the surface. We move for the gift of moving... not to perfect a pose or prove a point. And we breathe for the gift of breathing... a quiet miracle we get to honour every day. We want our community at The Space to feel
safe, seen & heard.
You offer a wide variety of movement—from Katonah Yoga® to Barre. Can you tell us more about The Spaces’ offering?
Yes! Although we primarily teach Yoga, we also offer varied movement modalities; we recognise and appreciate the wonderful ways in which we commune, move and cultivate joy. We have Yoga, Pilates/Barre (Mat), Dance and Restorative classes. Our teachers’ share our individual perspectives from our personal practices. We recognise that biology isn’t binary and every class may offer a totally different
experience!
You host monthly donation-based classes — how did that initiative start, and what impact has it had on the community?
We recognise that wellness might be considered a luxury to some; we want to continue sharing these techniques far and wide, despite financial circumstance. We have an influx of students that are able to come and practise who might not have done before. We also offer 1x community space for every class on our timetable – These spaces are for anyone experiencing financial uncertainty, mental health struggles and/or are underrepresented in the wellness industry.
Are there any upcoming workshops or events at your space you wish to share?
We have our signature Rise, Align & Renew event in November which is a hybrid class of Pilates & Yoga, followed by pastries & juices... It's the best way to kickstart a weekend! We also have just launched our Men's Yoga Club which is a donation-based class, curated for men and takes place on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month. All proceeds over running the cost of the class, are donated to Movember, the men's leading mental health charity. We're really proud and excited of this offering :)
Is there anything else you’d like to share with the community?
You can join us from wherever you are in the world on our online platform The Space+, meet us in our beautiful city of Bath or come play with us on retreats around Europe!
Why did you choose Manduka PROlite® yoga mats to outfit your studio?
All the best studios I've practiced in have Manduka mats, it was a no brainer.
